Chapter 730 - 641: Apocalypse Date (3)

Chapter 730 - 641: Apocalypse Date (3)

"Seems a bit... cramped?"

In the narrow cavity, Chichu Chun gradually shifted her posture, the blood and flesh walls pressed from all directions, compressing the space for movement.

Xu Xiaoyou silently lay flat, lying below, watching Chichu Chun struggle to fit her legs into the cavity of the insect’s abdomen.

Due to the smallness of the abdominal cavity, the two girls could only be close together, resulting in a somewhat... ambiguous posture for a while.

"You should have expected this." Xu Xiaoyou said.

"Of course I expected it long ago." Chichu Chun chuckled, shifting down, placing her arms on Xu Xiaoyou’s shoulders.

"Creating a more intimate environment is also an important part of the date."

"I did it deliberately."

Chichu Chun revealed a cunning smile, her long hair falling along her cheek, obscuring her facial features, isolating the entire world outside the two girls.

For a moment, their world consisted only of each other’s breath and heartbeat; through Xiaoyou’s eyes, Xu Xiaoyou saw her own reflection clearly.

The environment inside the Insect Race’s abdominal cavity was relatively warm and humid, the cold sensation danced across the skin touch.

"Your body temperature is very low." Xu Xiaoyou commented.

"Is it?"

Chichu Chun’s gaze was serene, she gently leaned over, tightly hugging Xu Xiaoyou’s shoulders, her face lightly pressing against the girl’s neck. She suddenly chuckled softly, positioning herself lower and turning her face.

"Do you want to listen to my heartbeat again?"

"Hmm... very calm."

"It is very calm." Chichu Chun said, "It’s been a long, long time since I’ve felt so calm."

Chichu Chun lightly sniffed, there was always a faint perfume scent on the girl, like a certain rose fragrance mixed with the smell of a hyacinth. This scent made her feel at ease, at least by Xu Xiaoyou’s side, she wouldn’t think about whether one day those iron-black talons would tear open her shell and emerge from her body.

The horned beetle began to move, under the influence of pheromones, even though it had lost its will, it still walked steadily, step by step, leaving oval-shaped shallow pits, with just the naked eye, it was impossible to see that two girls were hidden inside this giant creature.

It slowly passed through the buildings, through the cracks of light, they could see the outside scenery, different roles of the Insect Race were clearly defined, predators were responsible for killing captured prey, then horned beetles dragged them to the Insect Nest, usually a Mantis Blade would keep guard, looking down from above, countless horned beetle transport teams moved in sync towards the same direction, everything appeared so orderly.

The prey of these Insect Races included many, rabbits, musk deer, even elk or rotten-toothed predators that intruded into their hunting grounds; these preys were sent into the Insect Nest, where aphids secreting special proteases would disassemble them and transform them into easily absorbed nutrients, transported through pipelines to the incubation pools or the Insect Queen.

When a prey had excellent genes, marrow extractors would extract the gene fragments, compile them into the Insect Nest’s gene bank.

When an Insect Nest was fully operational, chambers with different functions collaborated in their respective duties, acting as a precision instrument.

An elderly horned beetle walked heavily by, dragging a rotten-toothed tiger behind it, seemingly sensing something, casting its gaze this way, its turbid eyes suddenly lit up.

But before it could make a sound, the rotten-toothed tiger suddenly sprang up, against the long horns piercing its body, pounced onto the horned beetle’s back, opened its giant bloody mouth and bit into the horned beetle’s throat, tearing forcefully, blood gushed like a torrent.

No whimper, this elderly horned beetle met its life’s end, its heavy body crashed to the ground, the disturbance echoed through the city.

The rotten-toothed tiger stood upon the horned beetle, raised its head high, its long eyes emitted a fierce light, commanding everything. Besides the Insect Race, this king of beasts held absolute majesty in the natural world, it raised its head in a long howl, in its life’s last moments it emitted an Unyielding roar and dethroned bellow.

It died, its body did not fall.

The Mantis Blade fluttered its wings over, dismembering the rotten-toothed tiger into pieces, looked toward the fallen companion, ordered the nearby workers to disembowel the horned beetle and pack it with the rotten-toothed tiger to send to the Insect Nest.

The Unyielding and majesty that burst forth before death, in the eyes of the Mantis Blade, did not count as ’excellent’ genes, even considered inferior. As the Insect Nest’s top HR, it knows exactly what the Insect Queen needs.

What constitutes superior genes?

Both the ferocity of predators and the sharpness and patience of raptors are required; most importantly, endurance and loyalty, no tolerance for challenging the collective will’s authority.

Clearly, the swarm does not need maverick outliers.

That Mantis Blade surveyed the surroundings, dove to slay several elderly frail horned beetles; it is a born executioner, executing these tribesmen doesn’t even require ten seconds.

Perhaps in other creatures’ eyes, such conduct is inhumane, but the Insect Race calls it

—efficient.

Finally, that Mantis Blade landed steadily on the back of a horned beetle, the very horned beetle the two young girls were hidden within.

"This guy is really annoying." Chichu Chun was visibly displeased.

Disturbing her serene time, truly deserving death.

The Mantis Blade sharpened its two-armed Curved Blade, vibrating its wings, performing a stretching motion.

It curiously scrutinized the horned beetle beneath itself, the serrations of its Mantis Blade edge caught in the chitinous skin, yet found the horned beetle not even uttering a grunt, just burying its head and continuing forward.

This Mantis Blade felt such a heavy aura on its fellow for the first time, akin to that emanating from the dead, yet based on all sorts of features, it was very certain this horned beetle was in its prime.

Even pain stimulation wouldn’t rouse a reaction from this creature.

The novel discovery immediately piqued the Mantis Blade’s interest, just as it planned to break the routine and dissect this horned beetle to explore its internal structure, it suddenly sensed a cold gaze.

Looking left and right, it discovered a predator whose eye had been pierced was coldly watching itself.

If saying predators are soldiers for external conquest, then Mantis Blade is the guard around the Insect Nest, in charge of vigilance; their features are similar, due to division of labor not looking well upon each other.

The Mantis Blade looked around, the horned beetle had arrived under the Insect Nest, with no patrolling guard insects around; seeing this, it immediately leaned forward to issue a warning, assuming an attack posture.

Unexpectedly, that predator started vibrating its wings and launched an attack upon it!

The twin Mantis Blades intertwined and embedded, both fell into a stalemate and grappled, neither prevailing over the other, finally rolling off the horned beetle’s back and tumbling to the ground, even rolling to its sturdy legs.

In the altercation, the Mantis Blade suddenly froze.

Because it saw a pair of bright red eyes.

"Ode of the Eyes!"

The horned beetle lamented to the sky,

Sat heavily, bursting the Mantis Blade’s head.
