Chapter 538 - 525: Slaughter and Invasion
One Timid Demon died, two Timid Demons died, a hundred Timid Demons died, thousands of Timid Demons died on the ground...
These ugly Demons, some were killed by the enemy’s hand, and others, fell to the hands of their own kind.
The battles of Demons are chaotic, especially when combat ensues and at the sight of blood, the initial chaos turns into irrational frenzy.
In such a frenzied state, Demons even attack their own comrades, using those around them as tools for their outbursts, blades cleaving flesh, and the splattering blood fills them with intense pleasure.
This might be why Demons are often labeled as ragtag armies, as they don’t even comprehend the most basic military commands, only knowing to charge mindlessly. Perhaps even the Evil God has no solution for this.
Flora watched all this grimly.
This was a battle of tens of thousands, with the Demons launching an offensive and the defense composed of an army of Blood Elves, goblins, Ogres, and Werewolves.
This power has a name: [Free City].
The ruler is a goblin, a timid goblin, who astonishingly became a Gold-tier powerhouse—a miracle in itself—and when this goblin built a fortress in barren lands, it was like a tale many believed.
The city sealed tight, the entire fortress exuded an oppressive, gloomy aura.
In front, the Demon Legion surrounded the area, laying siege for over half a month.
The defense of the Free City endured the first wave at a gruesome cost, and afterwards, the Demon’s assaults turned even more violent. Aside from some Timid Demons, there were traces of Snake Demons and Frenzy Demons.
Standing atop the fortress, the goblin forces cursed the lunatic who advocated this attack; a Catman had recently come to demand fifty percent of Free City’s profits, and after being refused by Lord Jinbi Gan, left in fury, threatening to launch an attack on the fortress soon, and to sever that ugly head.
To the upper echelons of Free City, this was regarded as a mere joke. That Catman’s strength was not weak, legendary to the level of the goblin lord, both emerging from the weakest forces and rising to become Gold-tier, forming their own forces.
The Catman’s name is Flora.
Recently risen, after killing a nearby Mind-Reading Demon, became a true Demon Lord; she is powerful and has the potential to become a legend, but after all, her rise was too recent, and neither her foundation nor majesty could compare to Jinbi Gan.
This Free City traded in earlier days, often attracting nearby Demons for transactions, even Devils appearing among them.
Jinbi Gan had been entrenched here for over a hundred years; advancing age did not weaken him but instead added mysterious allure. He had the goblin’s sharp judgment, and in his rise, killed three Demon Lords, which established his notorious reputation.
And now, a Catman, a freshly proclaimed Demon Lord, dared to openly state his intent to breach Jinbi Gan’s stronghold and take his head, causing a great uproar.
Jinbi Gan made a counterattack, offering a rich bounty for anyone who brings the Catman alive before him, and as for the outcome, some of Jinbi Gan’s confidants revealed that this evil and powerful lord recruited some Tentacle Monsters and that after tiring of the haughty Catman, he would throw them into the Tentacle Monster dungeon to be raised into a humiliating pet.
Some underground workshops even opened bets on when the ignorant little kitten would be subdued by Jinbi Gan.
Yet, before a result appeared, the Demon Legion led by Flora was already at the gates.
No prelude, that handsome Catman waved an arm, and tens of thousands of Demons surged like locusts towards the Free City before them.
Insane?
The Demons entrenched at the stronghold were somewhat surprised, what they thought were mere words had come true; the other side, indeed, launched a siege battle.
After the brief surprise, Free City returned to calm.
This fortress was not the Mind-Reading Demon’s stronghold; it underwent centuries of renovation, towering at twenty meters, and not just any cannon fodder could breach this defense. Even mid-tier Demons would need over ten thousand lives to break through it.
Jinbi Gan loved riches yet more cherished life, having piled most of the fortress’s wealth atop these walls. Thus, besides Free City, this fortress bore another name, "Neverfall," suggesting it would never fall.
A group of Barbarian Bulls appeared on the battlefield’s other side, creatures unique to the Abyss, resembling buffalo but entirely black with scales, blood-red eyes, sharp horns like spears, gleaming coldly. These Barbarian Bulls would be no different from the ordinary were it not for their bulky pouches, contents unknown.
The guards of Free City likewise saw these Barbarian Bulls, mostly with disdain; the horns of the Barbarian Bulls were sharp, yet to breach the walls was just a fool’s dream. After jeering and mocking, they again focused forward, where Demons pressed on, and blood had already stained the walls red; for dark creatures, this scene made them more engaged.
Some Demons stood behind the Barbarian Bulls, and upon receiving the order, raised the daggers in their hands—not typical for the Abyss—and stabbed them fiercely in the Barbarian Bulls’ flanks.
The Barbarian Bulls went mad, driven by the pain to charge towards the city walls. Hundreds of Barbarian Bulls stampeded like a torrent towards the walls.
Close.
As numerous dark creatures awaited the Barbarian Bulls’ wails and setbacks, a sudden white light flashed in their eyes, followed by hundreds of flames shooting skyward, massive blasts resounding, and the sound of stones collapsing.
The creatures on the walls panicked, sensing a tremor below their feet, unclear about what had just transpired, what those blasts were. Clearly, they too were startled by the disturbance.
From the south came the sound of falling rocks, and the guards hurriedly rushed over, standing at the corner, pupils contracted, their lips twitching involuntarily.
Even the cold-blooded, heartless dark creatures found entertainment in life, yet what they saw startled them; the majestic fortress had indeed partially collapsed, a huge breach appearing before them.
Unbeknownst to them, hundreds of twisted figures appeared behind Flora, counting them, these Demons were all Silver Tier, and even a small portion had reached Silver Peak, a truly elite force.
Frenzy Demons, Enchanting Demons, elite Timid Demons mixed with some Banshees and Dark Elves, these Demons now wielded enhanced weapons crafted by Order, glowing dazzlingly in the gloomy weather as if a sweep could claim the enemy’s life.
"Attack!"
Flora had barely finished speaking when a swarm of Demons rushed towards the breach in the fortress like a night parade of a hundred ghosts.
Abyss’s great victory.
City fell.
The former sacred trading ground of countless dark creatures instantly became a sea of blood.
