Chapter 198: The Parting

She glared at him directly. "What good is it if Lu Yu agrees? I don't agree. I want him to return here with a clean record."

How painful it is to walk through this world carrying a burden of guilt that is not one's own.

After seeing that person off, she tidied herself up and then had someone send the captured person to Shangguan Yuzhe.

The Ji family will definitely take action; it's better to leave them with the Prince's mansion than with her. If anything happens, the Ji family will be finished.

Rouge came out of the house, and her outfit looked rather unusual.

"Are you going out?"

She didn't hide anything and said directly, "I'm going to check on Lu Yu. You stay home and play with my brother."

"Okay, be careful on the way." She lifted her leg and walked towards the stone steps. It was really cold outside... She shrank her neck and, thinking of Ji Meiqing's bed, quickly walked over.

The rest was no longer her concern. She was only thinking that lying in bed was most comfortable in the dead of winter. Just as she closed her eyes, she realized she seemed to have forgotten something.

I couldn't figure it out after thinking about it for a long time, so I simply closed my eyes and went to sleep.

She carried the food box and slowly walked in that direction. Chang Lai had become quite familiar with the place, and after giving her a few taels of silver, she was led to where he was.

When Lu Yu saw her coming, he came over from the corner as usual.

"You can't wash here, and I smell a bit." He subconsciously stepped back, not wanting her to smell him.

Ji Meiqing opened the food box in her hand, took out the contents, and placed them one by one in front of him.

"Come sit a little closer, I want to take a good look at you." She smiled and beckoned, but when he refused to come over, she looked a little helpless. "I won't dislike you, I won't dislike you no matter what you look like."

She tried to coax him for a long time, but he still refused to come over. Ji Meiqing was somewhat helpless and could only let him be.

"That prince sent someone to tell me that you can be released as long as you confess your crimes," she said jokingly, pouring him a cup of tea and placing it in front of him.

Lu Yu put down his teacup and calmly said, "That's impossible."

“I know that, so I rejected their proposal and sent all the evidence over. You should be able to go home tomorrow.”

"That's nice." He smiled, and Ji Meiqing felt a pang of bitterness in her heart as she looked at him.

“That prince is a wine lover. If you two are together, you’ll probably have a lot to talk about,” she suddenly said, then glanced at him cautiously. “I just know you like wine but not this kind of commercial brewing. It’s just that he, like you, enjoys wine.”

“I know.” He lowered his head. “I know what you mean, so you don’t need to worry about me. Nothing will happen to me.”

Ji Meiqing paused, not understanding his sudden change. Thinking that he was unhappy, she quickly added, "Actually, it's okay if you don't like it. You don't have to take friends too seriously."

"I'm fine, I'm really fine." He smiled, his face beaming. "How could I not be happy when you're so considerate of me?"

She paused, then didn't continue the conversation.

The people outside were urging her on, and Ji Meiqing said a few more words before leaving. She was still preoccupied when she left, and soon after she left, another person arrived.

Before Lu Yu even returned to his corner, he smelled a familiar scent. He turned around, and there stood the person standing right in front of him by the railing.

"You are……"

"I have repaid your kindness, and I am about to leave this place. I cannot take care of the rest of things. If we meet again in the future, I am afraid we will be strangers." She bowed deeply and then got up from the ground.

Lu Yu looked at her, his expression unchanged, and said, "Have you thought it through and are you going to leave?"

“Back then, I was severely injured and sent to a brothel to fend for myself. If it weren’t for her, I might really be a prostitute now.” She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and spoke of her past experiences as if nothing had happened, then laughed self-deprecatingly. “But now I can finally go back. My name is Qingyan, one of the twelve protectors of Lingyan Pavilion. You’ve probably heard of me.”

"No." He shook his head honestly, looking completely bewildered. Qingyan sighed in frustration, too lazy to argue with him anymore. "I should probably go back now, otherwise if they come looking for me, it'll be another tragedy."

"I won't give it away."

She stood up and added one last sentence, "She went to the capital alone for you. Although she didn't go so far as to pray to gods and Buddhas, she still humbled herself and pleaded with them. She wasn't the best, but she was good enough to stay with you for life."

"Thank you for telling me."

She was already far away, and no longer there. Lu Yu resumed his original demeanor, adopting the posture of a meditating monk.

Another wave of snow fell, and the winter moon shone exceptionally brightly.

A dark figure flashed through the bushes and arrived on the path a moment later. He walked directly onto the path and headed towards an abandoned courtyard. Although it was called an abandoned courtyard, there were still people guarding it.

He adjusted the items under the tray slightly and then walked straight over.

"His Highness instructed his servants to bring food for the people inside."

He pushed the door forward, as if gesturing for them to inspect it. The two men didn't bother to look again and simply stepped aside, letting him open the door by himself.

It was dark inside, but warmer than outside.

"Dinner's ready," he called out. There was movement in the corner, and he looked over to see a person walking towards him. The person's face was sallow and looked unwell.

He placed the food on the table, then looked at the man, and put away the knife hidden in his sleeve.

"The food at the Prince's mansion is truly excellent," he exclaimed, picking up his chopsticks as if to eat. The people behind him were ready, waiting to finish him off with a single stroke the moment he began to eat.

However, he seemed to have misjudged the situation. He ate in peace, and just as the knife in his hand was about to be plunged in, someone suddenly grabbed his arm. He let go and let the dagger fall, but it was caught steadily.

The assassin was terrified. He knew that the people here were extraordinary, but he had never seen anything like this before, and for a moment he didn't know what to say.

"The Ji family sent you, didn't they?" He smiled but didn't say anything. To prevent him from biting through the poison sac on his teeth and committing suicide, the man casually put something in his mouth.

A person came in from outside, holding a torch, which illuminated the entire courtyard.

"The Ji family is quite audacious, daring to plot against a member of the royal family. If I had arrived any later, wouldn't everyone here have died?"
