Chapter 377 Registration successful

Xuanmei and Yunya sat facing each other in the living room, chatting. They agreed to go to the labor bureau to register later.

Yunya also made Xuanmei a cup of hot tea and took out her own favorite snacks to share with her.

She secretly hid these snacks during the Chinese New Year. Now, a month has passed, and those little treats at home are long gone.

Luckily, she was quick-witted and secretly hid some to enjoy herself slowly.

Xuanmei ate two sausages and hawthorn candy. The two got up to register. Just before leaving, Yunya stuffed a handful of fruit candies into her pocket.

After leaving the room, the two pushed their bicycles and went to the labor bureau to register.

When they arrived at the Labor Bureau, it was packed with people. The two of them managed to squeeze in, and Xuanmei spotted an empty seat and pulled Yunya over to it.

The staff member looked at the two and asked, "Young ladies, are you here to apply for jobs? Would you like to go to another city or stay here?"

Yunya spoke first: "We want to stay here. I heard there's a newly opened garment factory, right?"

The staff member nodded and handed them two forms.

Xuanmei took the form and was about to fill it out when she suddenly heard someone next to her saying, "Going to another place is not easy. You don't know anyone there, and you don't even know if you can find a good job."

Yun Ya and Xuan Mei exchanged a glance and whispered, "See? More people are still choosing to go to other places."

Xuanmei thought for a moment and said, "That's right. Those young girls are so young. It would be a waste if they didn't go out and make their way in the world! Besides, the wages outside are much higher than at home."

Yunya thought it made sense. After they finished talking, they quickly filled out the form and handed it in.

The staff told them to just wait for news, and they would be notified by phone when the time came.

Yunya asked awkwardly, "Um, neither of our homes has a telephone, so what should we do?"

The last time Liu Jing looked for Xuan Mei, she had to call her neighbor to find Xuan Mei. Yun Ya's family said they would install a telephone later, as they didn't have the money for the time being.

The staff member looked up at them and said, "Why don't you go directly to that garment factory at 7 a.m. tomorrow? Do you know the exact address?"

Xuanmei nodded quickly, "Yes, yes! I know." Yunya didn't know the exact location, so she could only listen to Xuanmei.

After the staff finished making the arrangements, they said, "Alright, that's all. You can go back now!"

Actually, all that talk about interviews is just empty rhetoric. There's a labor shortage everywhere right now, and as long as you're healthy, you can be hired even if you're older.

However, garment factory jobs are filled on a merit-based system, with experienced workers being the first to be selected. Both of them will definitely be hired.

After registering, the two happily pushed their bicycles home, discussing various possibilities of working at the new factory along the way.

Xuanmei had finally come to her friend's house, so she couldn't go back so soon. She decided to stay and go shopping with Yunya.

Halfway there, Xuanmei suggested visiting Liu Jing, but Yunya didn't want to go. Liu Jing always spoke to her with hostility, and Yunya wasn't about to waste her time on such a cold shoulder!

Xuanmei knew that the two of them didn't get along, but she was still quite worried about Liu Jing's situation. After much persuasion, she finally convinced Yunya to go with her to Liu Jing's house to check on her.

Yunya said she would stay there for a while and then come back, not to stay too long, and Xuanmei agreed.

Before they even reached home, they turned another corner and went to Liu Jing's house. Yun Ya's house and Liu Jing's house were separated only by a bridge and three corners; they lived in neighboring villages.

"Xuanmei, what brings you here, and Yunya too..." Liu Jing's tone was somewhat cold.

Xuanmei smiled and said, "We came to see you. We just registered at the Labor Bureau and thought we'd drop by to see you."

Liu Jing ushered them inside. Yun Ya felt a little awkward and stood at the door without moving. Xuan Mei pulled her into the living room.

After sitting down, Xuanmei asked Liu Jing with concern, "How have you been lately?"

Liu Jing forced a smile: "It's fine."

Yunya muttered under her breath, "Oh! He's putting on airs now."

Upon hearing this, Liu Jing's expression changed: "Yun Ya, what do you mean?"

Yun Ya retorted without backing down: "Don't you understand what I mean? Don't think I don't know what you're thinking."

Just as the two were about to start arguing, Xuanmei quickly stood up to smooth things over: "Hey, we're all friends, don't make a scene. Let's talk about something happy, we might get to work at the new garment factory."

Upon hearing this, Liu Jing's expression softened, and she joined the discussion about work.

After a while, Yunya said it was getting late and pulled Xuanmei away from Liu Jing's house.
