The socially awkward villain's furry superpower

Chapter 162 Maple Leaf's Mood

Chapter 162 Maple Leaf's Mood

Maple watched her sisters cheer and jump for joy. Trinity was especially happy because she had been a great help, as was Teddy, even though her eldest sister had to teleport her out of trouble and pat her to soothe her wounds.

But she... wasn't so happy.

Maple Leaf felt a gentle squeeze on her hand. She looked up and met Athena's gaze. Her slightly older sister smiled at her and said, "It's okay."

Maple Leaf tried to smile back, but it was a little forced. There seemed to be a bottomless pit in her heart, making her afraid she would be swallowed up.

Of course, once she starts thinking, all sorts of ideas will pop into her head, such as how to fill a bottomless pit.

She needed crayons, some paper, at least six cans of (dark) soda, and some kind of small explosive, and then… Maple shook her head, banishing the thoughts.

Now is not the time to think about this.

Maple Leaf glanced at her older sister and noticed a worry on her face. Her sister was glaring at the overturned truck and the alley where the villain had fled.

Then, she looked at the three vans that sped along the street as a group of Heroic Response Force (HRF) soldiers got out. These men were dressed in full armor, carrying intimidating large guns, and wearing masks that covered their faces; they were quite repulsive.

They quickly dispersed and cordoned off the area.

Maple Leaf felt she should be a little worried about them. After all, they were "heroes," her natural enemies.

But my older sister is right here with me, so as long as she's there, I have nothing to worry about.

The heroes would never dare to harm any of the eldest sister's sisters, and Maple Leaf was one of them.

Even though she was the most useless of the sisters.

A hero jumped out of a van, and Maple recognized him.

This was an older man with slightly graying hair, wearing a tight-fitting blue and white uniform that clung to his body, making him appear muscular.

“Girls,” the eldest sister said, “alright, everyone come here. We need to talk to these heroes. That means I’ll speak for you all, okay?”

Maple Leaf readily agreed. She didn't like talking to people anyway.

She always stutters, her face gets hot, her eyes get wet, and she worries about what others will say or how they will see her.

Worse still, she often has all sorts of thoughts popping into her head while she's talking, and then she gets distracted by them for a while.

The sisters knew about her situation, so they didn't mind if Maple Leaf spaced out for a little while, but it was different with strangers; it was quite frightening.

Of course, the eldest sister has no problem facing the fearsome hero, because she is much cooler, calmer, and better at talking to people than Maple Leaf.

Maple Leaf clung tightly to Athena, using her sister as a shield to avoid the hero's curious gaze.

Fortunately, Trinity and Teddy's voices were loud enough to attract his attention.

“Hello, sir.” Sienna nodded to the hero.

“Boss,” he said, “and you guys too. It’s nice to see you all here. Doing good deeds again?” The hero put his hands on his hips and straightened up.

Is he posing? Maple Leaf looked around and saw several people holding cameras.

She hoped they hadn't captured her blushing. But... maybe there was something she could do.

She needed something reflective…maybe some holographic stickers, and her own phone to write the virus program, and then…Maple blinked. Sienna was still talking to the hero, but she had already missed a sentence or two.

“Yes, we rushed over as soon as we heard ‘Rattlesnake’ was here. But we were too late. He was already preparing to leave. ‘Robber’ and ‘Ursa Minor’—” She pointed to Trinity and Teddy.

Teddy is still in bear form because she didn't bring her own uniform, but that's okay.

People would stare at the grizzly bear for a while before noticing the maple leaves.

"—We tried to fight him, but he was already retreating. We, uh, managed to snatch a bag back from him, but that was it."

The hero stroked his chin. "It's a pity we couldn't catch him. But I can't blame you for failing. He's always been a thorn in our side."

“I heard about Charm Woman.” Sienna nodded. “Is she feeling better?”

“She is currently receiving intensive treatment. I cannot disclose when she will be able to return to the streets and help the kind citizens of Eau Clair, but I believe she is doing her best to get back on the scene as soon as possible,” he said.

These words sound... very bland. Like oatmeal without syrup.

“Okay,” Sienna said. “About, uh, ‘Rattlesnake,’ do you have anything to share? We weren’t planning on fighting him. But he looks… very strong.”

"I have nothing to share with those who aren't involved," he said, shaking his head with a regretful look. "Unless you and your friends are willing to join our side of justice? Gaining 'Silver Fox's' approval would give you a very bright future!"

“Oh, no need, thank you,” Sienna said.

Silver Fox smiled as she looked at the others, but Maple Leaf and her sisters shook their heads with varying degrees of enthusiasm.

Joining the "heroes" side? Maple Leaf felt disgusted just thinking about it.

“Okay, we’ll… go now,” Sienna said.

“We may have some other problems,” Silver Fox said.

Sienna frowned, and Maple felt a chill run down her spine.

The older sister is about to enter "scary mode." "Glamour Woman has my contact information."

Meraton and other heroes I find useful also exist. Have a nice day, 'Silver Fox'.

She turned and strode away, with Maple Leaf tightly gripping Athena's hand as she hurriedly followed.

"Silver Fox" was clearly caught off guard, but it was his own fault for angering the boss.

Once they were a little further away from the hero response force that was blocking the streets, Maple Leaf saw the tension on her sister's shoulder gradually dissipate.

"Oh my god, what did I say?" Sienna covered her face and whispered.

“You’re awesome, boss!” Teddy said as she transformed back into human form. She wobbled a little as she went from being on all fours to standing on two legs, but that didn’t dampen her enthusiasm.

"You scared him so much he's afraid of bears."

“That’s not true,” Athena said.

“I said it and it happened?” Teddy said. “But do you know what no one has ever said before? ‘I’m going to make them afraid of owls.’”

Maple Leaf looked down at the sidewalk she was walking on and smiled slightly.

Now that all the excitement is over, it feels so good to be able to listen to my sisters playfully teasing and threatening each other as usual.

“Girls,” Sienna’s tone was clearly a warning, “please stop now.”

“Let’s continue when we get home,” Athena said.

Sienna sighed deeply, but did not refute.

“We need to analyze that fight. See how we can do better next time. Maybe we need to make some special preparations for ‘Rattlesnake’,” Sienna said softly. “He seems to have some kind of… impact ability? Vibration or something? It’s not quite the same as what Sam and Charm Girl described.”

“He was annoyed by us, but he wasn’t afraid,” Athena said. “He wasn’t even afraid of Teddy.”

“What? You’re wrong,” Teddy said.

“No, I knew it from his eyes,” Athena said.

“I bet he was so scared that he didn’t seem scared at all,” Teddy said.

“Does he have any other ideas?” Sienna asked.

"Nothing else. I don't think he even really wants the money. Well, he wants it, but not in a desperate way."

Just like Trinity sees something on the ground and wants it, but isn't upset if she doesn't get it.

“I’m just that mature,” Trinity agreed.

Sienna nodded. Sam and the other newly recruited henchmen were at the other end of the street.

Maple Leaf sighed; she believed she understood her perfectly.

She was glad her older sister was handling things for them. "Okay, we'll discuss this in more detail when we're finally home. Maple."

Maple Leaf was startled, her eyes widening as she looked at her older sister. "What is it?"

“From now on, we will rely on you a lot, okay?” Sienna asked.

Maple Leaf nodded repeatedly. But she was feeling very uneasy, partly because she was overjoyed to be able to help, and partly because she was worried and anxious.

What if she doesn't help well enough?

Sienna smiled and patted Maple Leaf on the head. Maple Leaf decided that no matter what, she would do her best.
