Chapter 311 - 253: The End (Part 2)
Chapter 311 - 253: The End (Part 2)
After all, not everyone has the courage to fly a bush plane into a blizzard to rescue an injured person.
Nor does everyone have the stamina to trek across the frozen Far North Tundra for a week to pursue a Super Wolf Pack.
And fewer still would brave the harsh conditions of the Ice Sea, piloting a vessel to save fishermen who had fallen overboard.
This Medal of Honor.
Feng Shan had earned it, through and through. No one could find fault with the decision.
"Now, please welcome the Governor of Alaska, Mr. Bill Walker, to present the Medal of Honor to Mr. Feng Shan."
Eva announced, her voice crisp and bright, a smile on her face.
As her voice faded, the Governor of Alaska, Mr. Bill Walker, emerged from a side corridor. He wore a sharp, dark suit with the Alaskan state crest pinned to his chest, exuding an air that was both dignified and approachable.
The audience parted, creating a path for him. All eyes followed the governor’s steps, filled with anticipation as they waited to witness the glorious moment.
As he walked, the governor occasionally nodded to people on either side, showcasing his personable charm.
Soon, Mr. Bill Walker reached the center of the stage and stood before Feng Shan.
He first extended his hand, giving Feng Shan a warm, firm handshake.
"My friend from the East, you’ve done a tremendous job. I visited your country a while back—very welcoming people. I hope we get the chance to grab a couple of drinks sometime."
’How am I supposed to respond to that?’
’This wasn’t in the script.’
Feng Shan smiled a little awkwardly. "Of course we can."
The governor then took the velvet box containing the Medal of Honor from a staff member at his side. He opened it gently, revealing the symbol of Alaskan honor to the crowd.
Smiling, the governor solemnly removed the medal and pinned it to Feng Shan’s chest. As he did so, he said,
"Mr. Feng Shan, everything you have done has brought hope and protection to Alaska. You are truly deserving of this honor."
Feng Shan glanced down at the medal on his chest. "Thank you, Mr. Governor. I’ll continue to do my best."
The audience immediately burst into thunderous applause.
Just before leaving the stage, the governor shook Feng Shan’s hand again. In a voice only the two of them could hear, he said, "You’re going to the Wild Bull Tribe tomorrow. Chief Welta invited me as well. We should sit down for a chat."
The governor’s voice was low and carried a hint of mystery. His eyes held a profound look, suggesting the meeting was of unusual importance.
Without waiting for a response, the governor released Feng Shan’s hand and turned back to the audience. His expression instantly shifted to a warm, gracious smile as he waved to the crowd before walking back down the aisle he came from.
Feng Shan was left looking bewildered.
’He had no idea what the governor meant by that.’
The next moment, the host, Eva, strode gracefully to the center of the stage. With a sweet smile, she gathered all the Medal of Honor recipients for a group photograph.
With the CLICK of camera shutters, a sea of smiling faces was captured, marking the official end of the highly anticipated award ceremony.
The crowd began to file toward the backstage lounge, and Feng Shan followed them.
The moment he entered the lounge, Frank hurried over, his eyes immediately drawn to the Medal of Honor on Feng Shan’s chest.
His eyes instantly welled up with gratified tears, as if he were looking at a long-awaited, priceless treasure.
"If your grandfather could see this, he’d be so happy. This medal will save you a lot of trouble."
As Frank spoke, he stepped forward and patted Feng Shan’s shoulder. The gesture was full of warmth, showing he was genuinely happy for him.
"Darling."
Just then, Eva appeared from out of nowhere.
The seductive gown she had worn on stage was gone, replaced by a short skirt that accentuated her long, straight, fair legs. They seemed to glow under the lights, drawing everyone’s attention.
The moment she appeared, she flitted over to Frank like a cheerful little bird, threw her arms around him, and started making out with him as if no one else was there.
When they finally broke apart,
Frank, a doting smile on his face, wrapped an arm around Eva’s slender waist. He leaned close to her ear and whispered in a low, suggestive tone,
"Baby, you were amazing on stage. What happened to that gown? Can you wear it again tonight, just for me?"
"I had my assistant take it to the car," Eva replied, a faint blush coloring her cheeks.
She gave Frank a knowing look, her eyes a flirtatious mix of coyness and charm, as if they shared a private secret.
’A shameless pair.’
Feng Shan watched them from the side, all lovey-dovey and oblivious to everyone else, and couldn’t help but grumble to himself.
’He really wanted to tell Frank what had just happened on stage.’
’And let him see his girlfriend’s true colors.’
But the words died on his lips. He hesitated. After all, if he said anything, it would definitely make the situation very ugly.
Just then, Frank turned to Feng Shan, a curious look on his face. "Hey, buddy," he said with a smile, "I heard you’re heading to the Wild Bull Tribe tomorrow."
"How did you know?" Feng Shan stared, completely dumbfounded and confused.
’He’d only just agreed to Jeff’s request yesterday and accepted Chief Welta’s invitation.’
’Logically, very few people should know about it.’
’How does it seem like everyone knows today?’
’The governor mentioned it on stage earlier.’
’And now Frank was bringing it up too.’
"That bastard Bill Walker must have told you. Damn it! You’re with Free Alaska. He’s acting like a whore, trying to pull everyone into his bed. Buddy, just ignore him."
Frank had a look of disgust on his face, waving his hand dismissively with a wide gesture. It was clear he couldn’t stand Governor Bill Walker, and his voice was laced with contempt.
"I’m going to the Wild Bull Tribe tomorrow, too. Remember what I told you: I’ll handle anything that comes up. You just focus on enjoying life."
Seeing the troubled look on Feng Shan’s face, Frank’s tone softened. A trace of concern appeared in his eyes as he patted Feng Shan’s shoulder reassuringly.
"Come on, I’ll take you to the reception."
Feng Shan shook his head. He had no interest in some reception.
’He’d rather do something meaningful than waste time with a bunch of unimportant people.’
"Can I skip it? I was planning to head over to the animal shelter to see those poor animals before I leave town."
"Fine by me. I think that’s a great idea. That bullshit reception is full of short-sighted losers anyway. Hanging around them will just drag you down," Frank said, nodding in complete agreement. "I’m not going either."
Eva, standing to the side, had eyes that lit up at the mention of the reception. But when she heard that neither Feng Shan nor Frank was going, the light in her eyes instantly faded.
’The guests at this reception were all rich and powerful. If Frank introduced her to even one of them, it would be a huge boost for her career. It might be the break she needed to take things to the next level.’
’But with both of them skipping it, her plan was ruined.’
’Still, there were a few hours until the reception. If she could just persuade Frank in that time...’
At this thought,
Eva’s fighting spirit seemed to reignite, and the disappointed look on her face vanished.
She pressed his hand, which was still on her waist, and secretly tickled his palm with her pinky. Pressing herself against his side, she cooed in a soft, syrupy voice,
"Darling, I’m all sweaty from hosting the event. What do you say I go to your room and take a shower?"
"Of course." The moment Frank heard her words, his lips curled into a knowing smirk. His eyes grew more eager, and he pulled Eva in tighter. "In that case, baby, we’d better hurry to the hotel. We wouldn’t want you to catch a cold."
With that, he looked over at Feng Shan. "Buddy, you’ll have to grab a cab to the shelter. I’m a little busy right now."
Then, with his arm wrapped intimately around Eva’s waist, Frank led her out of the auditorium, their retreating figures a picture of eager intimacy.
Feng Shan watched them go, unable to help but shake his head to himself.
’Shameless pair!’
